I attended Worcester Polytechnic Institute and graduated with a degree in Physics. I love math, science and engineering. I enjoy helping students explore and appreciate these subjects. I have worked for Princeton University, Hewlett Packard, Xerox and Northrop Grumman.

I just retired from a company that makes ion implanters for the semiconductor industry. I used Math, Science and Engineering every day in my work. My job was writing computer programs that control every aspect of these multi-million dollar implanters. For example, I was working on a computer program to calculate the paths of ions in the implanter. The ions pass through magnetic and electrostatic fields which have filtering and focusing effects. The results of this program help us to predict how the implanter will perform in various situations.

I taught a GATE (Gifted and Talented Education) program on Saturday afternoons. Recently I started helping at-risk students with their homework at a local teen center.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

C++

During my 6 years at Varian Associates (acquired by Applied Materials). My daily coding was done in C++. I am very comfortable using C++ on the Windows platform. Normally I use Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 or 2010 for a C++ development IDE.

Computer Programming

I have on the job experience as a computer programmer, engineer and scientist. I know many languages and understand the deep concepts of computer programming, object oriented design, structured programming etc. I have programmed in Pascal, APL, BASIC, C, C++, C#, objective C, Java, JavaScript and Pearl. I have worked for various companies such as Hewlett Packard, Xerox, and Northrop Grummand. I have also programmed for the U.S. Navy and Princeton University.

JavaScript

I have been programming in JavaScript for 6 months. I created a graphical programming language using JavaScript. Here are links to 2 videos where I show how the language works. Samples are available upon request.

Arctangent

My video shows how to use the Arctangent function to convert x and y coordinates into an angle. I then use Sine and Cosine to convert the angle back into x and y coordinates.

Excellent and Competent Tutor — Met with Thomas this week and was very pleased with my experience. He is very good at explaining the difficult, hard-to-grasp concepts in JavaScript. He is very personable, easy to talk to, and with him, there is no such thing as a stupid question. I would highly recommend him to anyone who is studying JavaScript or any computer programming language. ...
