Born and raised in the Bay Area, I attended Wheaton College in Massachusetts where I double majored in Art History and Italian Studies. After achieving at 3.86 cumulative GPA, working as a departmental tutor for Italian, and being admitted into both Phi Beta Kappa and Gamma Kappa Alpha (the national Italian Honor Society), I enrolled in Middlebury College's immersion-based MA program in Italian Literature. My scholastic journey afforded me the opportunity to live and study in Italy for two years, both as an undergraduate and as a graduate student, and I am confident that my experiences abroad in the birthplace of the Italian Renaissance, coupled with my rigorous academic background and my continued success as a tutor (at both the high school and college level), make me uniquely qualified to teach a wide variety of subjects, from middle school and high school math, to perfecting critical thinking and writing skills, to Art History and of course Italian (and everything in between) both passionately and effectively.
As an experienced tutor of all ages, I've recently been particularly focused on working with middle school and high school students to improve their study habits, skills and overall performance in math. My goals for students seeking tutoring in math are simple: I aim to inspire confidence while engaging students and reinforcing material learned in the class. At the end of each session this reinforcement becomes student driven as I ask students to tell me "in their own words" about the concepts we've learned and reviewed that day, and to copy these words down as notes (often detailing step-by-step how to tackle a problem), giving them tools to approach their work when I am not present and encouraging them to reflect and process the work we've done together.
I recently completed my Master's degree with Middlebury College, achieving a 4.0 while doing so! I graduated magna cum laude from Wheaton College in Massachusetts with a double major in Art History and Italian Studies and was inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa honor society. During my Senior Year at Wheaton, I was selected as a Senior Admission Intern for the Office of Admission. As an intern, I was responsible for interviewing prospective students for admission, evaluating their transcripts/portfolios and what they could contribute to the college community. As a tutor and mentor, I have continued to use my knowledge of the field of admissions and my own academic experiences and successes to help my students navigate the often daunting college admissions process. I have assisted my students in selecting appropriate schools to apply to, in editing admissions essays and personal statements and in preparing for admissions interviews.
Great tutor. — Very patient. Does not faint when I butcher a word. Very happy I am working with her. Feel I have already made progress after just 2 lessons. 3/3/14- She never cringes at my pronunciation. How, I don't know. Always prepared with lesson plan and exercises. Would be great at this full-time. ...
