I have recently been tutoring reading and writing at the Benicia Library as part of the Literacy program. I have a Bachelors Degree in Philosophy and my Master's Degree is in Medical Humanities with a special interest in medical ethics. I can help you with philosophy and your English skills. I have taught adults in a classroom setting for four years and have taught respiratory care skills to patients for over thirty years!

I especially enjoy one-on-one tutoring because I like to tailor the lessons to meet each student's needs. I would love to help you to succeed in your class, your education, and your life. I'm looking forward to working with you!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ESL/ESOL

Volunteering at the Benicia Library in the literacy program, I worked with a student whose native language was Spanish. As volunteers, we learned a lot about ESL.

Grammar

I have published a book chapter as well as journal articles. I have also graded the papers of college students at graduate and undergraduate levels.

Proofreading

In addition to proofreading my own papers prior to submitting them to my instructors, I have proofread articles and book chapters for faculty at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston.

Reading

I have an excellent comprehension of the English language, as evidenced by my GRE scores and graduate courses up to the PhD level.

Vocabulary

I have an excellent vocabulary. It makes me a very good Scrabble player! I really enjoy finding just the right word for my writing, and enjoy helping students find theirs.

Writing

I have written a book chapter published by Springer as well as several other journal articles. I have tutored many students at graduate and undergraduate levels of education in their writing.
