I received a Bachelor's of Science in Chemistry a Bachelor's of Arts in Economics along with a minor in Science and Mathematics Education from the University of California, Santa Barbara during my undergraduate career.
During this time, I was actively involved in science outreach programs for elementary students, peer tutoring services and held a student teacher position in a high school chemistry class. By working with different ages and varying degrees of skill I've found the best way to communicate and relate subject material to the individual rather than a target grade level.
My style of tutoring is an inquiry-based learning system that focuses on critical thinking and deduction rather than memorizing procedures. The idea behind this approach is that students will have to constantly incorporate previous topics solidifying their mastery in the subject. Students that undergo inquiry-based learning are conditioned to the unique thought process necessary in science and math subjects and will be prepared to approach all varieties of problem solving. This style of learning allows my students to comprehend the subject as a whole rather than a topic by topic basis.
I typically like to assess my students' weakness and strengths early in the relationship in order to tailor the most effective tutoring agenda. This allows me to work with students who will need assistance throughout the course's entirety, need to get past a troubling topic or want the extra edge to be at the top of their class.
