I have a BS in Zoology: Cell and Developmental Biology and an MS in Cell and Molecular Biology. I have over seven years of research experience, in both biochemistry and neuroscience laboratories. I have a thorough understanding of biology, chemistry, microbiology, molecular biology, genetics, neuroscience, and scientific writing. I believe that all students should leave high school with a solid understanding of science concepts and the scientific method. I am here to help your students understand how science works and relates to our daily lives.
I am currently an adjunct instructor for Biology for Non Majors at Bakersfield College. I have also been tutoring/teaching elementary age, middle school, and high school students for about eight years. During college, I tutored for an organization called 'Read to Succeed', which was focused on providing English reading/writing tutoring to inner-city children in the Lansing, Michigan area. I also taught lessons in environmental education, health, English, spelling and reading during my time as a Peace Corps Volunteer in rural Armenia. My experience in the Peace Corps solidified my desire to work in educational outreach and helped me to develop effective teaching methods.
Working with the needs of your student, I will develop a plan to aid in your child's academic success. Each session will include a variety of learning experiences, via reading, writing and different activities. My teaching methods often include some kind of a learning game in order to keep the lesson engaging for the student. I will also develop a positive rapport with the student by treating each student with respect.
