My name is Cheska and I am a recent graduate of Santa Clara University. I studied Communication (B.A.), French, and International Business. I am excited to be attending Azusa Pacific University in pursuit of my Master's in College Counseling and Student Development through Spring 2015. Passionate about student engagement in residence halls, specifically in social justice integration, I am aspiring to meaningfully apply my knowledge to a career in higher education, PR, HR, or in international affairs.
Since I was 13, I have been a summer teacher assistant in Monarch Christian School in Los Altos, assisting preschool and kindergarten students in hands-on Montessori curriculum, arts and crafts, dance/music, and PE lessons. In the summer of 2012, I was hired as a summer teacher in Monarch Christian Academy in Milpitas assigned to my own class of about 20 students (ages 4-9) teaching French, Language, Math, Science, Dance, PE, and Art. I also supervised a smaller group in the evenings for daycare.
In March, 2013, I was a volunteer teacher aide for the low-income elementary school of Ascension Catholic School in East Los Angeles. This was the most rewarding and authentic type of teaching I am grateful I had the privilege to be a part of. Truly, service is at the heart of education.
I have immersed myself in French since 2009 through Lynbrook High School classes and private lessons, and I now have a professional working proficiency in French. In Santa Clara, I have also been inducted as a member of the International Foreign Language Honor Society (Phi Sigma Iota Chapter). In Santa Clara, I have also fallen in love with working with college-aged students.
I am passionate in the academic and developmental growth of young children and young adults! Having been a Community Facilitator (Resident Assistant) in the residence halls from 2010-2013, I was constantly faced with the understanding of the academic, professional, cultural, and even emotional pressures of college life. College is challenging and rewarding; with my help, you could develop the smart study skills to ace your ACT and SAT sections. Attending Santa Clara would not have been possible without the helpful guidance in my ACT and SAT test prep from a private tutor and Lynbrook High School classes, which I am happy to share at a much more affordable price with high school juniors and seniors.
Whether or not you and/or your student needs to brush up on his/her French lessons, review for 4th Grade AR Tests, study skills, review elementary math/science, I can assure you that I will bring joy, patience, and fun to every lesson.
