I have the ability to lead, give instructions and lessons, or supervise and facilitate discussions in any subject. I have led small groups and various group readings and projects in association with my university as well. I have a few years of background in biblical studies if students wish to go deeper, and have also led smaller discussions with students in Kindergarten through 6th grade.
I have taken desktop publishing as a course to prepare for my journalism career. In it we learned layout, designing, and editing for magazine, online, newspaper, and web publications. I have also done blog designs from scratch and editing standard layouts.
I can offer showing how to build and maintain the site, or practice in making layouts, perfect for both publications or creative projects.
This is the age and education level I have worked with the most. I have taught during summer sessions through my youth group and church for six years, and my last year I was the superintendent of my area (Kindergarten). I have also tutored all grade levels from this range through high school and college students.
My subject range goes through reading; vocabulary; building good study skills, habits, and routines; math; social studies; languages, and any other subjects. I can help through various study methods, whatever works best!
I can offer help in understanding the many sounds in the English language and how they form words, spellings, sentences, structure, and grammar. I can help with great study tools and tips and enforce great study habits. I have tutored in language for a few years, and my past job was tutoring in Spanish. Most of this was pronunciation and sounding out new words, and helped me perfect my methods of teaching this area of both English and Spanish.
I can do basic lessons with flash cards, optionally in concordance with any textbooks they wish to use, to visually see and then say and hear the sounds. I am great with examples and using every day scenarios to illustrate when to use what word or sound or structure. I can be hands-on as well and bring props to help learners who are more visual to help with the audio learning.
I can have books and smaller readings to show examples and give hands-on practice for different age groups.
After taking a course in public speaking, I have improved each project, presentation, and event I have planned. I can teach the types of speeches and different mechanics and techniques to make it easier on the speaker and easy to understand for the audience. Having these techniques took away my stage fright as well, and practicing with less people, such as a tutor, definitely helped me learn and improve.
I know speeches can be difficult, both with delivering them because of nerves, or in finding just the right words and way to deliver a message.
I can offer various ways to help. I'd be happy to simply listen to a practice speech and offer criticism or role play being the audience and trying to perceive possible follow-up questions.
I can also help with ways to stay calm, control nerves, and deliver a speech with the right tone and pace.
Of course, I can also help write a speech and show the different ways one can format a speech, depending on the occasion and point. It may help to just have one session on the different kinds of speeches to choose from and how they are done.
As a past tutor and discussion leader, I can assist groups or individual students with any studying needs in any subject. I can facilitate various ways to study, from readings, to practice, to discussions, to new lesson plans, to quizzes and practice tests.
