I am eager to provide students with an excellent experience as learners and scholars!
My experience includes working with students in the Midwest and now on the East Coast in the traditional classroom, special groups, and individual tutoring. As a tutor I have worked with K-12 and undergraduate students for about ten years in mathematics courses, English language & literature, SAT preparation, GED preparation and college readiness.
In addition to Mathematics and English training in undergrad, I also earned a Masters in Social Work degree from the University of Pennsylvania. Much of motivation to pursue this degree was to better enable me to support students with learning differences. Subsequently, I have had great success in recent years supporting students with ADHD, Aspergers, emotional or behavioral differences, and other non-language based learning differences. Nonetheless, I also have had great success working with ESL students - including native Korean and native Spanish speaking students.
The approach I take to tutoring and supporting students in both holistic and individualized. I am firm believer in the saying that knowledge is power, but as a social worker and educator - I am quite comfortable with and passionate about the fact that the acquisition of that knowledge will look different for every scholar.
In a holistic approach I am taking into consideration the student's past experiences, goals - academic and otherwise, expectations of the student and the parents, time frame for goals, primary and secondary challenges, resources and any other relevant information, to best formulate a tutoring plan that is sustainable and successful.
