I hold a California Professional Clear Teaching Credential and have 12+ years' experience teaching in self-contained (taught all subjects) K-6th Grade classrooms; Bilingual Spanish; I've also attended many intensive (40+ hour) trainings in early literacy, second language acquisition; 'family math,' etc. At the elementary level, I focus greatly upon "parents as first teachers," and develop home-school partnerships.
I taught ESL (ELD English Language Development) for more than 12 years as a self-contained (all subjects) Bilingual classroom Teacher. Learning English was incorporated into all other subjects (math, science, social studies) as well as during a separate instructional time dedicated to phonemic awareness, phonics, grammar, etc.
Recently, I assisted an adult student who is learning English with reading and writing, all focused upon the United States Citizenship Examination. She passed on the first try!
I hold a California Professional Clear Teaching Credential.
I am a firm believer in rescuing good grammar from becoming a "lost art." When one speaks and writes well, one distinguishes oneself as a literate, well-mannered person and rises above the sad, boorish cultural norm of "dumbing down."
I often believe that people whose first language is other than English have a distinct advantage when studying grammar. The "Romance" languages with which I am acquainted employ much more sophisticated grammar and vocabulary than is often heard in daily use by North American speakers.
I'd be pleased to assist anyone desiring to communicate with improved and proper grammar. Thank you.

I look forward to helping you. Thank you.
As part of my Graduate work for my California Professional Clear Teaching Credential, I completed coursework in teaching reading and writing, including phonemic awareness and phonics. Additionally, I have attended many (100+ hours) Professional Development/continuing education training in early literacy and reading.
As a former Litigation Legal Secretary, my proofreading and grammar skills are excellent. I proofread and corrected many documents that were to be filed with the Court; errors were simply not tolerated in the large San Francisco firm where I worked.
Additionally, all of my adult employment and graduate school studies have required me to synthesize and/or interpret complex source material and produce highly sophisticated essays and reports, etc.
My proofreading and suggestions greatly enhanced several Grant applications and assisted organizations in successfully receiving the desired funding.
For many years I have informally 'proofread' newspapers, etc.; I "just see" errors in spelling and syntax, etc.
I look forward to assisting you with any of your writing tasks, including proofreading.
I have been actively engaged in public speaking since my early years as a Girl Scout! Beginning in my youth has meant I've never had "stage fright". Additionally, I participated in the Speech & Debate Team during High School. My college coursework included public speaking, and I spoke to wide audiences as a Student Volunteer Program Co-Chairperson. I have "lectored" at Church, which involves almost memorizing and reading with great emphasis Scripture passages for a given week. Finally, as a California Professional Credentialed Classroom Teacher with 15+ years' experience, I engaged in public speaking on a daily basis ~ and one must be 'engaging' to sustain and generate interest in one's subject matter to 20-30 students all day long.
There is almost nothing that surpasses the joy of reading! I love to help people, little children through adults, grow as readers. I say "grow as readers," not "learn to read" because we are all readers ~ just at different levels.
Your preschooler who recognizes the "logo" or symbol for a favorite store or restaurant IS already reading. And the journey continues...
I have considerable training in teaching students to "decode" sounds, phonics, develop fluency and build skills for comprehension. These are the "building blocks."
Then comes the joy of reading widely and deeply. I'd be honored to help guide your journey or that of your child into the wonderful world of reading.
I have been involved with Persons with Special Needs my entire life, beginning with one of my cousins. Writing has been the source of trouble my entire life, she says, tongue planted firmly in cheek. I was 'caught' writing the names of the States on a chalkboard during Kindergarten. Well, that landed me in First Grade by the middle of the year ~ and I've been writing ever since.
Seriously, I love to write and would love to assist you with your writing ~ everything from, for adults: memos or letters to technical and research papers; for kids: first sentences, paragraphs, comic books and your own books, too!
As a long-time Teacher, I have considerable training in teaching the mechanics of writing and am a quite strict grammarian (that is to say, I believe that what one wishes to say, say it well).
What would you like to write today? Please contact me and I'd be honored and pleased to accompany you on your journey growing as a writer.
p.s. The most important preparation for writing is to read, read, read! What are you reading today?
