For many years I have been engaged in teaching or sharing information and skills that I have acquired. I worked as a classified bilingual teacher for three years for the Anaheim Elementary School district and for another three years I worked for the Fullerton Unified School District as an ESL teacher teaching adults.
For twenty years I have been a volunteer docent, active member of the Bowers Museum Docent Guild in Santa Ana California. In house, I tour groups of children and adults through the galleries discussing the artifacts that are part of an exhibit. I am also a community outreach docent for the Senior Outreach Program. I enjoy nothing better than to teach or share information. I am enthusiastic and I like to make learning fun yet, I am firm about the student following the steps necessary to master a skill or remember through repetition information they can use in the future. For example in the Chinese Gallery at the Bowers Museum I point out the Chinese symbols that are seen in many of the artifacts. I explain their meaning, point them out again and again as we walk through the gallery until the visitor finds them him/her self and explains them as a group experience -- we have a good time!
I am also a visual artist. I believe any one can learn to draw and paint. I use the "Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain" method taught by Betty Edwards found in her book by the same name. I have studied in formal classes and on my own composition, art history, color theory, and the principles and elements of design. I believe these subjects to be of prime importance in channeling creativity in a competent way. I hope to be given the opportunity to share my skills.
