Algebra 1
I have taught Algebra 1 for the past fifteen years. I also have vast experience tutoring students in algebra. Over the course of the last fifteen years I have specialized in working with students who struggled with Algebra concepts and I have a great record of improving students understanding and elevating their grade.
American History
One of my BA degrees is in American history. My particular area of focus is the time period from settlement up to the civil war ( 1620s-1870s)
I have taught american history to eighth grade students for the past fifteen years. I have also been involved in tutoring junior high-college age students in history.
I also have ten years experience leading educational trips to the Washington DC, Philadelphia, Boston, and New York areas.
Baseball
I have played baseball my entire life since the age of 5. I have a love for the game that leads me to share that love with others. I have coached many youth league teams and have been to several coaching clinics
Basketball
I have played basketball since I was a very young child. I have coached many different teams and been through several coaching clinics
Bible Studies
I graduated with a degree in religious studies from CSUF. I have taught in private Christian schools for the entirety of my 15 year career. In each of those years I have taught Bible to at least one class and in most years to three classes. I have also led a Bible study for high school students for the last 6 years.
CBEST
I took the CBEST in 2003 prior to entering my credential program. I earned a total score of 174 on the exam. The section score breakdown was as follows:

As a teacher I coached many young teachers through the CBEST exam.
Classics
I am an avid reader of classic literature. From Tolstoy to Dickens I have read and studied a lot of classic literature in my time. I am also continually adding to my knowledge of classics by exploring new authors works.
Elementary (K-6th)
I hold a multiple subject teaching credential that allows me to teach grades k-8. I have certification to teach English language learners, special needs learners, and learners with moderate learning disabilities.
Elementary Math
I am state certified to teach elementary math. I have six years experience teaching math to 4th-6th grade students. I also have fifteen years experience tutoring students in elementary math.
Elementary Science
I am state certified to teach science to elementary students. I have 4 years experience teaching science in the elementary classroom.
European History
One of my BA degrees is in history. As part of the course work for my history degree I had to complete a series of survey of european history courses as well as subject specific course work relating to European history.
I have taught European history in middles school classrooms over the course of the last fifteen years. I also have a lot of experience tutoring junior high- college age students in history.
Geography
Geography is a key component of studying the history of the worlds peoples. I have fifteen years experience teaching history and thus that amount of experience focusing on geography as an aspect of the study of history
Geometry
I have fifteen years classroom teaching experience in both Geometry and Algebra. I specialize in working with students who struggle with the abstract logical concepts contained in the study of Geometry.
Golf
I have been an avid golfer since I was 12. I golf at least 5 times a month on the course and I am at the driving range at least once a week. I have taken lessons since I was 12 and I am continually working on my game.
Government & Politics
One of my BA degrees is in history. A major requirement for attaining the degree was to take course work in both government and politics.
Over the course of the last fifteen years I have taught politics/government within my history classes
Literature
I am an avid reader who devours over 50 novels a year. My interest in literature is very diverse. I am well versed in the classics as well as modern writers.
I am state certified to teach literature in the classroom and I absolutely love to discuss it
Macintosh
I am a avid Mac user and have been for the last 10 years. I own only Mac computers and use only Mac software. I have taken classes on the ILife suite of programs and am well versed in their use.
Philosophy
I have a BA degree in Religious Studies. A major part of the course work for this degree focused on philosophy. I am well versed in the ancient philosophers as well as modern thinkers.
Prealgebra
I am state certified to teach pre-algebra in the classroom. I have taught pre-algebra for the previous fifteens years. I have tutored both junior high and high school students in pre-algebra over the course of my career as well.
My speciality is working with students who are struggling with pre-algebra because they have holes in their learning. I have been very successful with dramatically increasing understanding and in turn raising grades.
Public Speaking
As a teacher for the last fifteen years I am well acquainted with speaking in front of groups. I also have a lot of experience doing Bible studies and seminars on religion and other topics
Reading
I am state certified to teach reading. I am well versed in the methods and implementation of those methods. My speciality is working with students who struggle with reading comprehension. I have been very successful with creating better understanding and subsequently improving grade results.
Religion
I have a BA in comparative religion and spend quite a bit of time researching and writing on the topic
Social Studies
I taught social studies for fifteen years and am well versed in the concepts contained within the discipline.
Sociology
I took many sociology classes in the course of obtaining my BA in history and comparative religion. The topic is fascinating to me and I continue to research sociological topics and write about them on my blog
Spelling
I am state certified to teach spelling.
Study Skills
As a classroom teacher for fifteen years a majority of my teaching on test preparation focused on good study skills. I experienced a lot of success in this area over the course of my career.
I also was the preferred resource in the area I taught in for diagnosing and providing a course of study to struggling students. Those study plans usually focused on creating good organizational habits, effective study methods, and lifestyle changes.
Vocabulary
I am state certified to teach vocabulary. I have fifteen years experience teaching methods for vocabulary retention within the classroom. I also have a lot of experience working with students who have struggled with retention of vocabulary. I have had a lot of success improving the retention of vocabulary in the students I have worked with
World History
One of my BA degrees is in history. As part of the course work for the history degree there was a heavy dose of world history. I have fifteen years experience teaching world history in the classroom. I also have a lot of experience tutoring junior high through college age students in world history.
Writing
I am state certified to teach writing in the classroom. As part of both my history degree and my religious studies degree I was asked to research and provide results in writing. Thus, I have a lot of experience in technical writing. I also have a lot of experience in creative writing. I have taken numerous workshops on creative writing and actively create material for a creative writing blog.
