Currently I am in graduate school at Biola University with a 3.4 GPA. I graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a B.A. in Biology. I was involved in the UTeach program at UT-Austin which trained students to become secondary school teachers. I took a number of education courses and we had hands-on training at schools in the area. At that program, I student taught Algebra and Biology in the classroom.
I have been tutoring for a number of years, helping students as young as 2nd grade to students over forty years old. I understand that tutoring is more than just knowing a lot about a subject, but being able to teach at a personal level. There needs to be a comfort level between the student and the tutor, which is why I always want to make after the first session that everyone feels comfortable to move forward. I am not a tutor who will just do homework for a student, but I want the student to be able to figure things out on their own. From my education and training, I have been taught that learning through experience is much more valuable. I also try to ingrain good study habits for the students because those habits is really what will help a student succeed in the future.
I try to make it as fun as possible. I know that sometimes when you are struggling through a subject it can be frustrating. I am very patient and understand that everyone learns in different ways. I love helping people succeed and I get excited when others achieve things they never thought they could.
