Hi! My name is Kim, and I have been a tutor for several years. I am a graduate from California Polytechnic University, Pomona with a degree in Biology. I have tutored at a variety of after-school programs (YMCA, Boys and Girls Club, and a plethora of independent organizations)throughout Los Angeles as well as my own students when I taught for Fusion Academy in Pasadena.
My approach towards tutoring is a positive approach. By that, I mean that I use positive reinforcement to encourage correct practices, rather than dismissing wrong answers. I encourage all my students to arrive at conclusions through their own logic by asking questions of themselves. Eventually the goal is to not provide them with answers because they will learn to find the answer themselves.
Most of all, I think tutoring lessons should be focused, yet fun. It is important to enjoy what you are learning because then you will want to learn more and continue practicing. It's not about cramming information, but rather about acquiring practices that you will carry with you for life.
