Over the last seven years I have worked as an educator in a variety of fields and instructional settings. These experiences make me a qualified tutor for a variety of students.
As a paraprofessional at an elementary school in Davis, CA, I enjoyed working with students who had special academic and social needs. Developing relationships, modifying coursework for each individual student, and infusing course content with their interests made this role very rewarding. This job required unique problem solving within the inclusion program in which students with special needs
were mainstreamed in general education classrooms. It gave me a lot of experience working with students who have special needs.
After earning my Multiple Subject Teaching Credential from CSU Sacramento, my wife and I moved to Washington, DC, where I began working with an education non-profit. The Literacy Lab allowed me to use my skills and content knowledge to improve their programs when working with small groups of students. After a year serving as an Instructor, I was soon in charge of training other instructors and managing school-wide programs in high need urban school and shelter settings. My role as an instructor also allowed me to pilot a program for 5th grade math
students struggling with word problems.
I also spent a year in DC working with 9-10th graders on all subjects as a tutor, but particularly spent a lot of time working on math because I have a strong background from high school and college.
I have recently relocated to the CA bay area and am considering pursuing a masters degree with the longterm goal of working as a speech
pathologist in an elementary school setting. In the mean time I would love the opportunity to use my talents to continue to help students succeed!
My instructional style is fast-paced with lots of short activities that help students feel accomplished, productive, and engaged in their learning. I love to incorporate quick game activities related to academic goals to keep lessons interactive and fun! I have a strong background in the arts - music

- and love to incorporate those disciplines into my lessons when appropriate. Intrinsic motivation helps students to see the progress they are making, so I like to include activities that are measurable and can be graphed to show students their growth and improvement in a visual way to help keep them motivated.
