I am currently a high school math teacher with over 15 years of classroom experience. I have also tutored students for over 25 years. I received my BA in pure mathematics from U.C. Berkeley and completed my credential from what used to be called CSU Hayward - now East Bay. I have taught and tutored all levels of high school mathematics from algebra to pre-calculus. In addition, I have tutored in additional areas such as calculus, probability, and linear algebra.
My methodology is to be a coach and allow the student to achieve mastery through guidance rather than supplying all the answers. Many students that have been deprived of a meaningful mathematics education generally experience math injury. My goal is to heal these mental wounds by instilling confidence through motivation and guidance.
The key to math success is not simply drill and check, but understanding each concept through a variety of methods. The student needs to be able to approach the solution from several angles to appreciate the concept. This will give her/him the ability to approach future problems with greater confidence and ease.
I can also coach the student for standardized tests such as SAT or ACT.
