When I retired from the United States Air Force I swore I would never get up early again. But I still wanted to do something to continue making the world a better place. So I turned to something I had done for my friends in High School, my troops in the field, and my neighborhood kids, TUTORING! I have been doing it professionally now for over ten years. I love it when my student's understand a new concept. Their eyes light up, they smile at me and say, "but that's easy!"
Most students who come to me have been having trouble for a long time, but managed to get by. My first goal is to help them with their current difficulties and homework. But then I take them back to the beginning, find out what they missed learning, and correct that. Math is like building a brick wall, each layer relies on a solid foundation. If you didn't learn fractions or the multiplication table, you're never going to get through Algebra. But by filling in the knowledge gaps, then each new concept is just a small, logical step...and Math becomes not just easy, but fun. And upon request, I can give the names of many of my students who have said just that!
