I am currently a student attending the Academy of Art University in San Francisco, earning my BA in Music and Sound Design for Visual Media. I have been working as a freelance tutor for a couple of years, and am looking to continue helping students of all ages up here, in San Fran. While most of my experience has been in music theory, piano, and the like, I have tutored students in writing, basic math, and French.

I graduated High School in the top %10 of my class, and scored the highest on the SAT for that graduating year. I am also an AP scholar, having passed 8 tests total, including Music Theory, Psychology, and both English tests.

While I am open to helping any student in any subject I feel qualified in, I am primarily looking for students who either need help in musical studies, or are hoping to improve in many subjects without having to deal with multiple tutors. If you are earning a lower income, and struggling to put yourself or your child through school, please consider me, as my rates are low, and I am willing to make things work for you.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Composition (Music)

I'm currently attending AAU as a Music for Visual Media major, with a focus in composition, so this is a subject that I feel extremely qualified in. Please contact me to see some of my original work.

Ear Training

I've studied music extensively throughout my life as can be seen in my other applications. As for ear training in particular, I have passed the highest level of Ear training offered at the Academy of Art University. I can identify intervals, chord qualities, and rhythm extensively by ear and have used these skills already in transcription work.

General Music

I'm currently attending AAU as a Music for Visual Media major, with a focus in composition, so this is a subject that I feel extremely qualified in. Please contact me to see some of my original work.

Music Production

I have several years worth of experience working in Logic Pro, Pro Tools and Sibelius, the latter of which I am also currently tutoring. I am also familiar with Finale and CakeWalk, and understand the physics and conventions of music production well enough to understand any other musical software or hardware presented to me, at least on a basic level.

All of the music on my online portfolio has been self-produced. Samples are available upon request.

Piano

I'm currently attending AAU as a Music for Visual Media major, with a focus in composition, so this is a subject that I feel extremely qualified in. I reached level IX in the Certificate of Merit Piano evaluation program in 2008, and have been playing piano since I was 11.

Public Speaking

I have ample experience speaking in public both formally and informally. In 2008, as a member of my high school's academic decathlon team, my speech in the free-form speech category placed fourth out of the hundreds of students competing. I frequently speak in public as well in the form of acting and standup comedy.

Songwriting

I'm currently attending AAU as a Music for Visual Media major, with a focus in composition, so this is a subject that I feel extremely qualified in. Please contact me to see some of my original work.

Theatre

I have been performing theatre since I was ten years old (2000) and have been in at least one production every year since. I have been on stage, backstage and on screen multiple times and have even done some studio work including Walla for the film Goats (2012).

As for teaching, I have assistant-coached the Hesperia and Oak Hills High School drama departments, leading them to multiple 1st place trophies at DTASC (Drama Teachers Association of Southern California). I have also choreographed fight scenes for multiple plays at Hesperia High School and Victor Valley College (references available upon request).

Awesome piano teacher — Alex is a really cool piano teacher. he is very patient and helped me acquire a basic understanding of how to play the piano. I enjoyed his lessons and give him 10 golden stars. ...
