I'm a native English speaker and have been teaching since 2009. I have a certificate in TESOL from California State University East Bay and a B.A. in Foreign Languages from Lewis and Clark College. I'm a member of several professional organizations such as TESOL and CATESOL and ESL International. I am finishing my master's degree in English, specializing in TESOL.
I enjoy helping students learn. Learning can be fun. My goal is to make my lessons as engaging as possible. My knowledge of other languages helps me understand the challenges learners face. I am able to explain the differences in grammar between languages so that students can understand. I tutor English to non native speakers as well as tutor Spanish to native English speakers.
My English teaching experience includes teaching writing to college students, both native and non native English speakers as well as middle school students. I currently teach reading and writing to international students at California State University East Bay.
I've taught English oral fluency, pronunciation, speaking and listening to Italian high school students. I taught ESL/English conversation, grammar, reading and writing to individuals and small groups.
I have worked with adult immigrants from a variety of countries, including Japan, China, Nepal, Eritrea, Iraq, Algeria, Saudi Arabia, Mongolia, Mexico, Honduras and El Salvador. The lessons focused on improving their conversational fluency, listening, reading and writing skills.
I've taught English for specific purposes in subjects such as childcare, real estate and career skills. In addition, I've taught native Spanish speakers English using both English and Spanish depending on their English language proficiency.
Spanish Language Teaching:
My Spanish language teaching experience includes teaching Spanish to adults, middle school and high school students, focusing on conversation, grammar and vocabulary. I also taught Spanish to middle school students at a private school in the East Bay.
I work collaboratively with my students to create fun, engaging lessons customized to meet their learning goals. I incorporate role playing, games and technology to facilitate learning.
After working together one-on-one, my students have been able to improve their grades by at least one grade point or more.
