My name is Sue and I will help your child succeed in school. I have experience tutoring elementary and secondary grade students in a wide variety of subjects.
I have been involved in the education field for more than fifteen years: with basic education courses taken in California, as a short and long term substitute teacher and as a teacher/tutor at a private school.
Most recently I was a teacher in a small private school where I taught high school students for credit retrieval in math, science, history and other core subjects. I created special lesson plans to fit each student's learning requirements. One parent wrote that "I greatly appreciate the time that Sue took to help Hayley not just "get through" her schooling, but to really learn. She was creative in her approach." (Full reference is available upon request.) Education is not a "one size fits all" profession and that's why tutors are important.
I have a good working understanding of the "new" core standards adopted by Arizona (and other states) in the past few years, especially those for mathematics. If your child has fallen in those middle elementary years with advanced standards, I can get him or her in line with expectations. These next few years will be a challenge for teachers and students alike. As for elementary school children especially, I am very patient and help students with well thought out steps which help them understand and complete their homework. I don't only check their homework but find out your student's problem areas and create plans especially for them.
I am well acquainted with internet search engines which enable me to find out the answers if I am not sure already. This research part of tutoring is very interesting for me because I am learning all the time. This will help your student understand basic concepts better. Bridging general rules with real world problems and current events helps students succeed.
