I believe that one-on-one tutoring is the best way to help a student. Each student has his or her own needs and I find that addressing those needs is the best way to keep the student interested and engaged. My tutoring experience ranges from children age 10 to undergraduates in college, though the majority of my experience is with older students.
After I majored in History and Religious Studies at Brown University, I returned to Las Cruces, New Mexico to spend some time with my family and complete a Master's degree in History at New Mexico State University. I will now embark on a PhD degree at the University of Arizona.
At NMSU, I became a graduate (teaching) assistant, and I have tutored struggling students for the last two years, especially with their writing and study skills. I have helped my students improve their papers, their arguments, their grammar, and writing style. I do so by taking things one step at a time, and breaker large problems into a series of smaller ones.
Other than writing, I am accustomed to tutoring students in the humanities. I am well-traveled and speak, English, Spanish, German, and some Persian (Farsi).
My tutoring style is adaptable to the student's needs, and I believe that the tutoring relationship should be one of improvement, patience, guidance, and honesty. I do not do the work for the student, rather I guide the student to improving their own efforts, thus reinforcing their confidence.
My rate is $35 dollars an hour but I am willing to drop the price based on the individual's or family's financial needs.
I hope to hear from you soon.
