My name is Gary. I have two MS masters degrees: Chemistry from NAU (Dec 1998) and Materials Science Engineering from ASU (last Dec 2012). Add to these, the extended and exclusive 12 year experience in presenting chemistry demonstrations for the Tempe campus Department. It also has included tutoring of students within the LRC (learning resource center) throughout my daily activities for the last eleven years. I claim to be a good candidate for teaching sub-disciplines of Chemistry.
During my years at California State University, I ran the laboratory for Undergraduate Research, and occasionally lectured classes in organic chemistry and in non-major physics for the tenured professor Dr. Pappatheodorou. During graduate work for three years as teaching-assistant for the Advanced Organic Synthesis laboratory, I supervised students through multi-step synthetic procedures, to which they each selected from the literature or from the professor's syllabus. This was very interesting work for me where I found my talent for explaining an understanding of scientific material is on a one-on-one basis. I claim skill for all sub-disciplines of general, organic, inorganic and physical chemistry (...I might add that in the pursuit of the engineering degree, many Physics courses were required, and to which I feel I have a special versatility in conveying underlying fundamental points and views to students who are learning the subject matter just for the first time).
My tutoring simplicity includes strategy for deciphering questions and finding answers, plus deriving equations or formulas from scratch.
