Hello! My name is Ellen and I have been teaching and tutoring in English, reading and writing for nearly 20 years. I have a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Education from Arizona State University. I also have a Master's Degree in reading from ASU and a Reading Specialist Certificate. In addition, I have an Arizona State Teaching Certificate in English Reading, and Special Education. I also have had training in teaching ESL students. I have a valid Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card.

I have taught students from elementary school through college. I have been Adjunct Faculty for Developmental Reading courses at Maricopa County Community Colleges. I also have helped high school students prepare for the English portion of the AIMS test. I would like to see students near the ASU campus, either on the ASU campus or somewhere nearby. I would be willing to meet younger students at the Tempe Public Library. I am interested in assisting college students with liberal arts courses such as history, religion and psychology and women's studies. I enjoy working with a variety of students and helping them reach their goals. Plus, I have a lot of patience. I look forward to meeting and working with you.

Psychology

I have a Master's in Reading and I have taught reading to community college students. I can help with the reading comprehension required in psych.

Elementary (K-6th)

I Have an Arizona State Teaching Certificate, which includes certification in Reading K-12 and Special Ed K-12. This means I can teach any subject K-12, but I refer not to teach math I have a lot of experience teaching reading and all other K-6 subjects. I enjoy working with younger students.

Phonics

I am a certified teacher for the state of Arizona and my certificate includes a reading specialization which makes me a reading specialist. While studying I had a course in phonics.

Study Skills

In my career I have helped many students of different ages with study skills. In addition, I have a reading specialization and experience helping students identify important information in specific content areas. I have experience teaching study techniques such as SQ3R and time management.

Special Needs

I'm certified in Special Ed in the state of Arizona. In addition, I have a background as a reading specialist which is helpful because many children with special needs need assistance in reading.

ADD/ADHD

I have an Arizona State Teaching Certificate which includes a reading specialist certification which allows me to teach reading K-12. In addition I also have a special ed certificate which allows me to teach all subjects K-12. However I do not teach math! I Have an Arizona State Teaching Certificate which includes Special Ed. My Special Ed Certificate also includes endorsements in Learning Disbilities as well as Emotional Disabilities. I have worked with students who have aspergers in an inclusion setting with accommodations as needed.

Regents

I have a background as a secondary education teacher in English. I'm originally from New York and am aware of what the regents exams are. I took them myself I am also taught test taking skills.

Social Studies

I have taught students in grades K through 8. I enjoy the social studies subject matter and am a certified reading specialist. I have special training to help students understand information in different subject areas such as social studies.

Classics

My BA was from Arizona State University in English Education. This means that I prepared to teach students in grades 7 through 12. It also allowed me to obtain an an Arizona State Teaching Certificate in English 7 through 12. As an English major, I took survey classes which included many standard classics in American and British Literature ss well as World Literature. I also took special classes in Women's Literature. Literature is my true passion.
