I do not have a lot of experience tutoring students who are not already in college, but I am willing to give it a try. A brief glimpse of my background will explain why this is so. I entered the Marines right out of high school and spent five years on active duty repairing communications equipment. After receiving an honorable discharge, I hopped from job to job until I began college full-time. My first academic interest was psychology, but the scientist inside me wanted more, so I completed two simultaneous degrees in psychology (neuroscience) and biochemistry from the University of Massachusetts in Amherst.
After working for a year as a chemistry technician, I was accepted into the Cell Biology doctorate program at Vanderbilt University. After graduation I worked as a research scientist for 5-1/2 years at the University of Arizona and another year at the Medical University of South Carolina. I am a coauthor on three peer-reviewed scientific publications and have presented my research at scientific meetings.
As a research scientist, I have mentored graduate and medical students as they pursued their own research goals. More recently, I have been working as a freelance writer in health and science. It should be obvious from my achievements that I know how to study, especially within the natural sciences, and would look forward to helping students at all levels understand biology and related disciplines.
