I would like to tutor students who are interested in art - either making it, appreciating it, or who think they might be interested in writing about it The areas I would like to tutor in are: history of art, critical theory, and criticism. I would like to offer focused "field trips" to look at art in the real world (the most significant learning tool/experience for understanding art), specific concentration on contemporary art, and help students either to write about art or to start writing artist statements about their own work. I am absolutely open to students who require specific help with any school or college degree courses related to the fields of visual art and critical theory. I studied art and art history seriously from a fairly young age (16) and have just recently moved from NYC where I was a full time freelance art critic writing for the most respected art magazines worldwide. I have published hundreds of articles, reviews, essays, and other forms of critical response over the past 10 years. I am an active member of AICA - International Association of Art Critics.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Art History

To me, Art History is essentially about the entire history of mankind seen through the lens of objects. It's often so much more interesting and exciting than people first think!! It all starts by looking at something and asking questions.

I completed Art with Art History "A" levels (age 16-18). I completed a 4-year, BA (honors) fine art degree from Dartington College of Art. From a young age, I have seen many of the world's greatest art collections. I worked as a full-time art critic for 9 years in NYC publishing hundreds of reviews, essays, interviews, texts for major art magazines worldwide.

Art Theory

I graduated from a 4 year Fine Art (BA hons) degree from Dartington College of Art in 1999. Art Theory was an integral part of the curriculum and I scored first class marks for my appreciation and understanding of current and recent Art Theory. I have also been writing about contemporary since 2002 and have published 100's of articles in the most well respected art journals/magazines in the world - consequently I have had to keep pace with current Art Theory as a given.

English

I have been working as a paid, professional art critic since 2002 and published articles with the most respected art journals/magazines in the world. Correct, accurate, and a working knowledge of modern grammar us-age, written English, and modern press formats is a pre-requisite to contributing published writing to the field of art.

Reading

I have been working as a paid, professional art critic since 2002 and published articles with the most respected art journals/magazines in the world. Regular and ongoing reading informs every aspect of producing written content about art. The accurate interpretation of current and historical text around the field of art is essential in conducting useful and thorough research.

Writing

I have been working as a paid, professional art critic since 2002 and published articles with the most respected art journals/magazines in the world. Correct, accurate, and knowledgeable writing is a pre-requisite to contributing published writing to the field of art.
