Algebra 1
Algebra was the first class that unveiled my love for math. Coming to an answer through a succinct process is wholly satisfying. Learning the methods of algebra is absolutely necessary to excel in everyday situations that are filled with algebra-related problems.
Biology
The study of life- Biology is a fundamental discipline that describes how all types of living species compete, coexist, and function. Biology can be the study of microscopic: cells and bacteria, or it can encompass the very large: animals, communities, and ecosystems. Evolutionary Biology is just one of the relatively new sub-disciplines of Biology that have been gaining popularity recently.
Chemistry
Chemistry is ubiquitous. It is the study of atoms and how they interact to form molecules and chemical reactions. The following questions are all answered through knowledge of chemistry. Why does lemon juice taste sour? Are diamonds really forever, or just really, really long? At what temperature will a given compound crystallize? In what way does adding salt to boiling water effect the boiling temperature? All of these questions (and many more!) can be answered through chemistry knowledge.
GED
General Education Development is a test fit for individuals that did not have the opportunity or correct circumstance to complete high school. The GED tests language arts, reading, science, and math principles. The math portion of the GED evaluates the test taker's ability to analyze statistics, perform algebraic operations and assign values to geometric shapes.
Organic Chemistry
I have taken two semesters of Organic Chemistry and passed both courses with the highest mark. Familiar with IUPAC Nomenclature, bonding, acid/base reactions, chirality, curved arrow pushing, and retrosynthesis. Have a wide array of books on the subject including: MCAT Organic Chemistry Review, Organic Chemistry (custom edition for Arizona State University) and American Chemical Society Division of Organic Chemistry.
Prealgebra
Likely one of the most important classes for young students to develop proficiency in- prealgebra is paramount to success in high school. Despite its importance, this subject is often overlooked and the consequences are hefty if the weakness is not corrected before later algebra courses. Prealgebra can be a fun and easy topic to master with diligence and desire.
Probability
Life is often mysterious to those not familiar with concepts of probability. Just because a 50-50 chance has come up ten times in a row on one side, does not mean the other side is due to have its time. Probability is everywhere, especially in statistics. A knowledge of the basic rules of probability will arm one to defend themselves against the embarrassment.
Vocabulary
In most specific disciplines, there is a lexicon that is usually unknown to the general layperson. To become adept in any one area, one must learn the vocabulary of the specific field. Building an extensive vocabulary is a life long process that will reward the student in many unexpected ways. Potential employers, friends, and peers all marvel at individuals with superb vocabulary resources. Knowing the meaning of an uncommon word adds confidence and prestige to the individual.
