Professional Drum and Percussion Teacher

Hello,
My name is Spencer G. and I am a professional musician and music educator. I have a Bachelor's and Master's degree in Percussion Performance, teach percussion at two local middle schools, lecture as an adjunct professor in the Maricopa Community College System, and regularly play professionally around the Phoenix Valley. I play mainly with musical theater companies, with a professional Brazilian Band, and in church praise bands.

I specialize in teaching ages 5-18 and I have experience work with students that have special needs including: Aspergers, extreme OCD, extreme Tourette Syndrome, and other learning disabilities. I have several adult student and have taught students into their 60s. I have been teaching drums since 2005 and also teach concert percussion, which are the kinds of instruments your son or daughter would play in their school band like: xylophone, marimba, bells, vibraphone/vibes, timpani, concert snare drum and auxiliary percussion.

Music Theory

I have done numerous score studies, theory and counterpoint classes through my collegiate career. Even after finishing my Master's Degree in Music, I continue to compose and analyze classical and jazz music regularly.

Ear Training

I have a Bachelor's and Master's Degrees in Music Performance and aside from taking six semesters of ear training in undergrad and one semester of advanced jazz ear training in graduate school, I regularly have to tune timpani by ear in musical theater settings while I have other people playing around me. My timpani I use do not have tuning gauges.

General Music

I currently teach percussion ensemble at two middle schools, but I also have lectured numerous times about percussion to music appreciation classes and world music classes. Beyond that, I currently teach Rock and Roll Music and Culture at a local community college and I teach general aspects about music in this class as well.

Music History

I have a Bachelor's and Master's Degrees in music and aside from studying music history in college, including percussion music history specifically, I am currently teach Rock and Roll Music and History at one of the local community college.

Drums

I have a Bachelor's and Master's Degree in percussion performance. I have been teaching privately and in middle and high schools since 2005. I play professionally with several music theater companies in the Phoenix area as well as various religious services, orchestra in the valley and with a headliner samba group. I also have an active Arizona Fingerprint ID Card which is a state issued criminal background check to work with children.
