First of all, you should know that I am committed to the success of my students. I can operate in several different tutoring modes, and will try to tailor my approach to fit with what works best for you. I have over sixteen years of teaching and tutoring experience, in a variety of different subjects. I have also worked as a freelance writer, journalist, sports reporter and art critic.
When it comes to writing, and reading, many students don't appreciate the concentration they need to complete their tasks. Writing is distilled human thought. We usually don't operate in the world in that rarefied and special way, and it is tiring, and requires time and effort to develop. Appreciating someone else's written work is like interpreting a piece of music; trying to understand its full meaning, its nuances, and why the writer has chosen to include this, while omitting that.
Having published many bits of literary criticism, and having taught many literature classes gives me an edge, and insight into this skill. I would like to be able to help you develop these skills as well. It will add to your experience as a writer, and broaden your appreciation of the work of other writers, as well as aid you in work environments where reading and writing skills are pivotal.
