I love language and history. Therefore, I pursued my BA in English/History & Theology at a small, intimate college on Long Island. While a student at this college and for a year after graduating Magna Cum Laude, I had a wonderful opportunity to work with a diverse population of students writing papers as well as helping them prepare oral presentations.

Then too, working at Molloy College I worked with a wide range of the Hispanic population in the evening helping them become proficient in English. I never just "spouted" rules of grammar since for every "rule" I could give, I could cite the inconsistencies to that rule. I worked with them using recorders to enable them to hear proper pronunciation, rather than just looking at the written word.

After re-locating to South Florida I worked as an associate director as well as a tutor for all age groups at Score At The Top. In the capacity of an Associate Director, I worked with school administrators as well as parents helping to determine tutors best suited to work with students either one-on-one or in small groups if preparing for specialized or standardized Florida tests.

I have my BA in English and History with a minor in Theology and would love to work with students of all backgrounds, crossing a broad swathe of disciplines, if you are in college. With writing, whether you or in elementary, middle, high or college, I can offer you a winning formula of "cats rats and bats" and assure you, you will be able to write on any subject.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

American History

As a student in college, I minored in history, was inducted into national history honor society and competed in a history writing competition where I placed second. I also tutored students on campus.

Anatomy

I was a Front Office Instructor for 3 different post-secondary schools where I taught medical terminology, and Anatomy.

Bible Studies

As a student at Molloy College, I minored in theology. In my junior year I applied as a member of the theology honor society. I presented a paper on Julian of Norwich and was inducted into the honor society. Additionally, as a member of Calvary Chapel in Lake Worth, Florida, I taught Sunday school classes in Bible studies for two+ years.
This year as a member of Calvary Chapel in Surprise, Arizona, I am a volunteer with the Good News Club through CEF and will be spreading the gospel to school age children.

Elementary (K-6th)

As an Associate Director of a tutoring facility, I tutored students (elementary grades and home schooling) in Language Arts, Social Studies and General science. I also served as liaison between elementary schools, parents and students. Currently I am tutoring 8-year-old twin in Language Arts, handwriting, and Phonics; and a sixth-grader in English.

Elementary Science

I work with many students who attend elementary school and we work on subjects such as reading, reading comprehension, science, math, spelling, penmanship, etc. and both my students and their parents are pleased with their progress and improvement in school subjects. We work hard but we ALWAYS have fun!

English

As an English major in College, I tutored students honing their written and oral skills.
I feel comfortable working with your child and can assist him/her with grammar, spelling, reading (comprehension included) and writing.

ESL/ESOL

I worked with students from the Foreign Language Dept at Molloy College and helped students with their reading, writing, and oral skills.

Geography

While an Associate Director at a Florida tutoring center, I worked with students enrolled in the public school system, private schools and students being home schooled. I engaged them in their study of geography with good results.

Grammar

I worked with a diverse student population while attending college and taught classes in English grammar and writing for a community college as well as vocational trade schools.

Handwriting

I tutored elementary school children in penmanship/handwriting.

Some parents chose home-schooling and used materials provided through K12. I used one of their publications (beginner through advanced) entitled "Handwriting Without Tears."

I was responsible for proper sitting posture, practicing in the air, then putting pencil or pen to specially lined paper.

I feel very comfortable in preparing youngsters to progress from printing to script.

Literature

While an Associate Director at Score At the Top, I helped students prepare for the AP Literature course. I also worked with students and provided guidance with writing any essays or papers for this course.

Medical Coding

While living in Florida, I was a medical billing and coding instructor at Florida Career College, Keiser Career College and Everest Institute. I am also a certified biller and coder with NCICS. I have also been a coder and biller for a variety of medical practices.

Microsoft Excel

Travelled throughout the country for 3+ years as an independent trainer for AT&T training ad, sales, and account execs on MicroSoft Office--Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Also certified by Microsoft.

Microsoft PowerPoint

For 3 plus years I travelled around the country for AT&T training employees in Word, Excel & PowerPoint.

Microsoft Windows

While an independent contractor/instructor for AT&T, traveled across the United States training ad execs, account execs, and sales execs MicroSoft Suite. The suite was over a three-day period and the first day focused on Windows. I was tested by AT&T before I could actually train AT&T employees.
Additionally, I trained clients in Windows--from Beginner Level through Advanced at Gateway Country Stores.

Microsoft Word

I traveled throughout the United States as an independent trainer for AT&T teaching Word, Excel and PowerPoint for close to two years. My "students" gave me rave reviews and my "classes" were always filled to capacity.

Phonics

As an Associate Director of a tutoring facility, I tutored students (elementary grades and
home-schooling) in phonics using public school texts and Spectrum and Harcourt Brace for students being home-schooled. I also served as a liaison between schools, teachers and students. Currently I am tutoring 8-year-old twins in phonics. They are home-schooled and we use Spectrum texts.

Proofreading

I worked for 3 years at Random House. I started in the Contracts department and began doing proofreading of manuscripts after taking a Proofreading course in the evenings at NYU.

Public Speaking

As as teacher for many Florida Vocational Schools, I was required to stand before my classes and speak (not read notes) on my front office subject matter. Too, I taught an English class with public speaking at Florida Career.
Additionally, I traveled around the country for AT&T training ad execs, account execs and sales execs in Microsoft--Windows, Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Likewise, I did the same training on the same subject matter for Gateway Country Stores.

Reading

While in Florida, I was an Associate Director for a tutoring center, Score At the Top. Worked with elementary school students, especially those in need of reading and writing skills.

Religion

I minored in Theology at Molloy College. I tutored students in Theology at this college. I was a member of the Theology Society, and submitted a paper and presented it on Julian of Norwich.

Social Studies

While a student in college, as a History minor, I tutored other students preparing to work with elementary and intermediate school students in social studies. Additionally, I assisted them in preparing for teacher certification exams that enabled them to receive their licenses as school teachers. As a tutor, I have tutored home schooled students in Social Studies and they have done very well.

Speech

While a student at Molloy College I worked with students from the Foreign Language Dept. We would first use a tape recorder to hear what speech patterns needed to be addressed. Then we would work from textbooks. I read a section; they read a section. They would work on various exercises with me during the week until everyone was satisfied with the results!

World History

I minored in history in college and am a member of the international history society. Additionally, I have tutored students in elementary school as well as on a high school and college level.
