Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Composition (Music)

I have a B.A. in Music Education from Berklee College of Music. I graduated cum laude. Part of my course work was in composition and arranging as well as form and harmonic analysis. My Resume and transcripts available upon request.

Ear Training

I took several levels of solfege classes using movable "do" from Berklee College of Music. I have done numerous transcriptions of recordings for pay as a professional musician. I have also taught solfegio and choir for 30 years as a professional music educator primarily with grades 5-12.

General Music

I have been a public and private professional music educator for 30 years. I have taught general music classes in appreciation, jazz, pop culture and esthetics. I presently teach grades K-8 at a Catholic school in Phoenix, AZ.

Guitar

I have been a professional "gigging" guitarist since the age of 15. I studied guitar formally at Berklee College of Music in Boston and graduated in 1980 cum laude. In addition to this, I have played in pit orchestras, in pops concerts with the Portland Maine Symphony, and recording projects for several CDs and jingles. I have also taught guitar classes as a middle school and high school music teacher for 30 years.

Music History

I have taken music history courses at Berklee College of Music and Jazz history courses for graduate credit at the university of Southern Maine. I have taught music history courses as a middle school and high school music teacher for 30 years.

Music Production

I studied audio engineering at Berklee College of Music for 4 semesters. I have produced cd quality demos for people as well as a Yoga cd.

I also have managed a 350 seat music venue for 2 years, logging over 60 shows with national headliners. I have been a gigging musician since the age of 15 and have played literally thousands of gigs in 40 years that required live sound reinforcement and knowledge of acoustical principles in hundreds diverse music venues. I am well-versed in microphone and recording techniques, plug-ins, analog and digital boards, outboard gear, effects, and mastering principles.

Music Theory

I am a graduate of Berklee College of Music, cum laude. I had 4 years of music theory - classical and contemporary and harmony and counterpoint and so on. I am happy to submit my degree, and my transcripts if you tell me how. Thank you

Sight Singing

Sight Singing and ear training are very similar. Both require solfege. I am trained in solfege from Berklee College of Music in Boston and I have taught it as a choir director in public and private schools for 30 years.

Songwriting

Compositions and songwriting are very similar in many respects. The ability to organize your original creations intelligently and cohesively is important. Also, arranging skills are very useful for all song writers and composers as well as basic theory and digital notation software. I use Finale.

Voice (Music)

I have taken 2 years of formal voice lessons and have been singing as a "gigging" professional musician for 40 years. I have also been a Choral Music Director for 30 years for grades 5-12 in various public and private schools.
