Hello potential students and parents;
My name is Susan, but I go by Susie. I have two adult children and I love my pets; specifically my five dogs. Even though I came from a family of educators, for me I started my degrees later in life, as I had my children to support and other pursuits. When I first went to college I was a theater major at Black Hills State University in South Dakota. Even though I went for three and a half years at that time I did not graduate, but as a consequence of those studies I have a broad background in theater, literature and the arts. After raising my children, when I went back I pursued my degree in psychology and child development. I graduated from Ashford University with a bachelor’s degree. I am currently working on the completion of my Masters in Forensic Psychology and by next year will start my PhD.
My work experience has been in health care administration and behavioral health. I have had the opportunity to work with kids of all different types; both fortunate and the less fortunate. I believe all children with the right guidance and structure can learn, grow and become whatever they want to be. The reason I chose forensic psychology is because I found in my working with children, there are those who have become involved in a juvenile justice system without a voice. I intend to be that voice as an advocate for their situation.
In addition to working with kids in the juvenile system, I have also instructed and directed children’s theater. I understand we all do not learn in the same way, even though traditional schools are structured that way, so it is important for me to learn your learning style and grow from there. I will look forward to working with you.
