Since 2006, I have been a peer tutor at 2 Graduate schools in Texas and Arizona. Students usually approach me and ask me to tutor them. I have never advertised or promoted myself as a tutor until applying with Wyzant. The number one reason peers want my tutoring services is everyone seems to notice that I have exceptional organizational skills which enable me to be successful in any class, on any test, and that I am calm under stress when most everyone else is stressing out. People usually ask me, "How do you do it?" That is when I offer tutoring services. In Arizona, I have also taught College Study Skills seminars to my peers every 6 months for about 2 years now. These seminars have been wildly popular, because in only 3-4 hours, I can give people a set of life-skills and school-skills ANYONE can apply RIGHT AWAY, regardless of their age, intelligence level, or abilities, and they can see the results right away in their study habits, grades and lower stress.
I have also worked with junior high and high school aged kids, mentoring them, supporting them, helping them to improve their self-esteem, helping them find their purpose in life, and helping them to discover their potential. My teaching style is universal. Everyone can benefit from my tutoring skills, regardless of age or ability.
Undergraduate subjects I have tutored are basic sciences such as chemistry, organic chemistry, biochemistry, physics, and also higher math.
Graduate subjects I have tutored are medical sciences, such as Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry, plus more advanced medical subjects such as Disease Pathology, Clinical preparation courses, and more.
At four colleges since 1996, my career GPA is about 3.85. Currently I am enrolled in medical school, to become a Naturopathic Physician. I have completed 2 years of medical school, and have 2 more years to go. I have taken and passed my Part-1 NPLEX Licensing Boards, entitled "Biomedical Sciences".
The teaching style I most commonly employ when tutoring, regardless of the student's age, is making associations between the new material they are trying to learn, and age-appropriate things the student already knows. This helps break the fear-barrier of learning new material. Instead of the new material being viewed as a fearful leap into the unknown, it becomes instead a relatively easy extension of the known. People say I just have a knack for making difficult subjects easy to understand. I use the same basic strategy with almost every subject, and it works.
What students can expect when they come to me, regardless of the subject they are learning:
• Learning how to better use and manage their time
• Learning how to better control their learning environments, for optimal learning
• Decreased stress
• Increased overall quality of life
• Increased long-term memory retention
• Improved test-taking skills
• Improved grades, if they will apply the easy set of skills I can give them
