I have a broad experience in education and experience. Currently, I am teaching English 101 at Chandler-Gilbert Community College and Scottsdale Community College. I will be teaching poetry and creative writing at Scottsdale Community College during the Spring 2013 semester. I believe reading, literature, writing, and music develops creativity and problem-solving abilities. I am comfortable teaching English, Literature, Creative Writing, Poetry, Music Theory, Beginning Jazz Improvisation, Public Speaking, Theology, Philosophy and Kitchen Sink Repair. I have worked with students for 30 years as a youth pastor, mentor, substitute teacher and workshop leader. I have 3 grown daughters - two are professional musicians and the other is an educator. My wife is also an educator, an elementary school music teacher, with 25 years experience. I have published short stories, interviews, poetry, and essays as well as delivered sermons and speeches to large groups of people. I play the saxophone and work in two local bands; the Jazz Poets & Snake Eyes. Currently, I work as co-pastor at FBCScottsdale.
I am patient with students and genuinely care about their grasp of a subject and their growth. I believe creativity and the creative arts expands a student's capacity to think and embrace new possibilities. Reading and comprehension are essential. Older students should be challenged to read the classics of Western Literature which will inform their understanding of English, History, and Philosophy.
