Writing:
In addition to scoring the highest possible score on the writing portion of the English AEPA I have worked with countless students on their writing skills throughout my seven years of working for The Scottsdale Unified School District.
I also have over ten years experience writing for numerous local... and national magazines and websites. Some of my experience includes City AZ Magazine (cover interview Cindy Margolis), 944 Magazine (film and music reviews, featured in contributor's section), College Times-Arizona State University (private party featuring LMFAO), Slam Magazine (circulation 500,000) online, ) and The Phoenix Suns ESPN True Hoop blog
Reading:
My goal is to instill a lifelong love of reading in kids and young adults.
If you are not familiar with the term Young Adult Literature think of it as John Hughes movies (Sixteen Candles, The Breakfast Club, Ferris Bueller's Day Off) in book form. Books geared toward teens and topics that are relevant to their everyday lives.
The reason I am a fan of YA literature for kids from the elementary school all the way through the high school level because it is such an effective way to build a love of reading that translates into increased proficiency.
Math:
For many kids, math is more of a struggle than it needs to be.
As I do with reading comprehension, I utilize pop culture examples and touchstones as tools to make math concepts more accessible and engaging to young students.
My comprehensive classroom experience as well as my knowledge of pop culture allows me to teach kids up to the Algebra 2 level to learn math in a fun and engaging manner.
I also passed the middle school math AEPA which tests up to Algebra 2 and am scheduled to receive his official certification.
