I am a certified elementary education teacher and library media specialist. I have both the Arizona fingerprint background check and my teaching certificates from the States of Wisconsin and Arizona.

I worked for the Milwaukee Public Schools for the past 21 years in elementary schools teaching 4 year old kindergarten students through 8th grade students. I also taught students, parents, and teachers how to use technology, as well as, a variety of software programs.

Through my teaching experiences, I have worked with a variety of disabilities including: autism, cognitive disabilities, visual and physical impairments, learning disabilities, ADHD, and ADD. I love teaching PC computer skills and served as an instructional technology leader, computer teacher, and webmaster for several years, as well as, a library media specialist. I am familiar with Microsoft Word, Microsoft Publisher, Microsoft PowerPoint, Kidspiration, Inspiration, Accelerated Reader, Raz-Kids, aaamath.com, and Audacity. I love Microsoft Paint, but can also use Photoshop. My favorite grade level is 2nd grade, since it is easy to see academic growth over the period of one year. Fourth, fifth and sixth grade math skills are both exciting and fun, yet the literature and social studies focus in 6th grade as also enjoyable. Did I mention I love science?

All of my tutoring lessons are correlated with the Common Core Standards, so I am utilizing similar strategies and skills taught by educators throughout the United States. I believe I can teach all students even if it means standing on my head, or performing a cartwheel for a job well done!

Tutoring should be an extension of the curriculum taught in the classroom, while allowing the students to experiment with various research-based learning experiences. I help students recognize their learning styles yet stretch to explore in new directions to maximize their success in school and the real world.

Algebra 1

Vocabulary

All students need a strong vocabulary to help them succeed in school. We can read books together, play games, create our own flash cards, and much more. Tutoring needs to be engaging to the learner, especially after spending a full day at school.

Grammar

Study and learn the rules of grammar while writing. We can do a drill and kill with the rules, but will you remember them, when your back in your classroom? Writing should be fun and should show your personality. Let's get started!

Geometry

What do you call a man who spent all summer at the beach?.......Wait for it..... A tangent.

Geometry gives us information about size, shape, and properties of space. It has been studied for a long time, since before King Tut. Let's unfold the mysteries of this subject together.

Microsoft Word

I have been using Microsoft Word for several years as an adult and as a teacher. I have taught students to create posters, newspapers, research papers and more with Word, including versions: 2003, 2007 and 2010. I also edited our school website as the webmaster using the various versions of Word.

Microsoft PowerPoint

One of my all time favorite software products! I have had students from 1st through 8th grade create presentations with videos and sound, research projects, and colored take home books they wrote using PowerPoint with Kidspiration, Inspiration, Audicity and Microsoft Paint.

Reading

Strong reading and comprehension skills help your child succeed in all subjects. Let's get the basics down and then the world is at your child's fingertips.

Although many of us enjoy fiction; exposing students to nonfiction including real people, events, animals and more opens many doors and helps you discover more about yourself and the world around you.

English

English is something we use everyday. Whether it is texting a friend, making a phone call, or writing a term paper they are all interconnected.

Learn some of the basic rules and then strut your imagination.

TOEFL

Do you need to learn the skills to effectively read and communicate using English? Let's talk, write, read, and become immersed in the language so you can pass the TOEFL.

Elementary Math

Math can be fun or challenging if you have a hard time learning the basics. So, let's get the basics down and then spring into the tougher computations together. No tears allowed, with my engaging math lessons!

Elementary Science

I enjoy learning about and teaching science. Students can become active learners through participation in hands-on activities and discussions. I've taught elementary electricity, rocketry, gardening (favorite!), animals, geology and more at the elementary level. Phonics

I took and passed a phonics class as part of the staff at Alcott Elementary School. We all took SSMIP, a three credit college course designed with a scripted format to teach and reinforce the same phonics lessons from K4 through 5th grade. I have taught 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students how to use Microsoft Publisher using the 2007 and 2003 versions. I currently have the 2010 version on my personal computer and use it for newsletters, cards, and posters.
