I have been an educator for over a decade. My experience begins with a deep love of learning and sharing my knowledge with others. I spent five years teaching English, Social Studies, Science and Math to seventh and eighth grade students in a charter school. During my time as a middle school teacher, I discovered that a student's real growth comes with self-discovery and exploration. Giving students the freedom to express themselves, their frustrations with learning and assisting them in creating obtainable goals is my strength.
After teaching I moved on to work as an educator with an outdoor education organization. There, I was in charge of creating hands-on, experiential programs suitable for young children and adults. While the organization's main focus was science based, I strove to incorporate language and art in every program and camp that I ran.
As a tutor I seek to give students autonomy in their studies, and to work in a way that best suits them, as we don't all learn the same. I believe that working with the student brings the greatest results. In addition, my experience and education allow me to provide a deeper understanding of many subjects to enhance the student's grasp of many concepts.
My strengths are in elementary level English, Math, Science and History. My bachelor's degree in Theater Arts and experience in the theater has given me a great appreciation for both written and spoken language.
