Hey howdy and a second hey for good measure! My name is Nathan J. and I am proud to announce my willingness to tutor you or your students! A little backstory (feel free to skip the boring parts!): I grew up in a private elementary school, excelled with a straight 4.0 GPA, and then was placed by my parents into homeschooling. I was initially disappointed with the decision until I realized the benefit of having time to work at my own pace and study. As such, I was able to branch out into a variety of subjects and interests. After being homeschooled for 8 years up through high school, I entered University of Nevada, Las Vegas, as an undergraduate in the Engineering program. I received Dean's List for outstanding scholarship, and a recommendation into the local Air Force ROTC detachment. I spent three years in the Air Force as a cadet corps member, before receiving my temporary leave for schooling. In addition to the leave, I took the opportunity to pursue a "higher" higher education opportunity at Embry-Riddle University.
I am now pursuing my degree in Aeronautical Science, Fixed Wing, and am excited to be exploring other opportunities as well. Educational background: I taught at UNLV as a TA and tutor in the English/Mass Communications department. Many of my students credited my teaching methods for the boost in their GPAs, and many of the incoming high school students that I tutored also appreciated the assistance as they prepared for entrance into college. I've taught a wide range of subjects, mostly complete curricula for elementary (1-6) and high school (7-12) as well as some college preparatory. I've taught college-level English, composition, tech writing, and speech/communication, as well. Influential hobbies/experience: I am a professional piano player, with 17 years of experience.
I've produced my own music for distribution onto iTunes, and I've also composed my own music for personal performance. I've also played drums for 8 months, with plenty of compliments on my skill level, but we'll leave my "status" on that one up in the air.
I have been heavily involved in the multimedia industry, including a year's time spent at film school for a "hobby," as well as 7 years' employment with a local Las Vegas television show, managing multi-person film crews and stage crews. I suppose the day of the chivalrous, Renaissance gentleman has been said to have died long ago, but I'm proud to announce that I'm part of the remnant. Without further ado, I thank you for your time and consideration, and I look forward to working with you! Favorite quote:
