I am a Japanese language major who has a passion for languages and understands Japanese up to the intermediate 400 college level. As of now I aspire to study abroad in Japan, and am considering a career as a translator, Japanese or English teacher, or an interpreter.
As an adolescent, translating Japanese text was a source of enjoyment for me and a hobby that I still practice. At the university I attended three years of language courses relevant to my major and joined a Japanese language conversation club. Two years ago I conducted an interview with a native Japanese professor and formulated an essay based on her experiences in the United States. Furthermore, I volunteered for a 3-hour Japanese language Corpus Research Project which tested my knowledge of reading, writing, listening and speaking.
My tutoring experience is as follows: I conducted several study groups with other Japanese language students for the purpose of understanding course material better. Last year I advertised my services and tutored basic Japanese grammar, reading, and writing to another student who previously took online classes. For each lesson I incorporated and organized important information from many textbooks. I also made use of detailed explanations in order to ensure a deeper understanding of the subject material. Last, I am familiar with various electronic and academic resources to aid in studying Kanji, Japanese grammar and vocabulary.
Given my goals, academics and professional experience, I have the necessary qualifications to help students gain a better understanding of many aspects of the Japanese language.
