Glad you clicked on my profile to see if I am good fit to be your tutor.

Teaching and tutoring students has always been a skill that I have had. I would tutor teammates before and after school in subjects they would be struggling in. I would also take time during independent work to tutor friends who were not quite understanding material. During college I began to enjoy working with students who had a special needs. After graduating with my undergraduate degree my passion took me overseas for a time to work with children with special needs in the Philippines. Upon returning to the states I began my Masters and Certification program in Special and Elementary Education. Along with my program I began to work for a local organization that worked with children on the autism spectrum.

I am always learning new techniques of teaching and more about all different types of disabilities. This is a testament that even in your career learning never ends. That is why I believe it is so important for people to become good students and learners early. Not only is it important for us to learn, but we need to learn how to learn. We all have different modalities of learning and I love to bring those modalities when I work with my students and tutor.

I have experience creating my own curriculum and following pre-set curriculum as well. As a special education teacher I know lots of the tricks and strategies to help ALL students learn. I am a very planned out type of teacher and like to know what I will be teaching in advance. I specialize in math, but have the ability to tutor all subjects.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ADD/ADHD

As a certified special education teacher in a cross categorical classroom, having students with attention difficulties requires a lot of patience and all the skills which I use in the classroom have been useful. It is also beneficial to work with these students in smaller groups.

Aspergers

As a certified special education teacher in a cross categorical classroom. Being in the special education teaching field, I have experience working with students who fall everywhere on the spectrum. My teaching abilities and experience in the field allow me to meet the student where they are, whether that is moving at a rapid pace or slow repetative day to day type learning.

Autism

As a certified special education teacher in a cross categorical classroom. The majority of students I work with have fallen on the spectrum. I have worked as a behavior technician and habilitator for an organization which specializes working with children who fall on the spectrum. While I was there I learned how to utilize Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA). I am a structured teacher which always helps students on the spectrum to be successful.

Dyslexia

As a certified special education teacher in a cross categorical classroom. I get to be apart of my schools reading intervention program. There I encounter all different levels and abilities of students. Students with dyslexia require attention, and like all students patience.

Elementary (K-6th)

I currently have my M.Ed and certification in Elementary Education. Though I am a special education teacher, I do teach general curriculum for their academic abilities. Not only do I teach my own classroom, but I will also go into a general education classroom and teach content in those classes as well. I have taught in a general education classroom from grades K-10.

Hard Of Hearing

As a certified special education teacher in a cross categorical classroom. I have worked with students who fall under the category of Hearing Impaired. It is important when working with ALL students to have their attention.

Special Needs

I am a current Special Education Teacher with a masters degree, which makes me highly qualified to teach this area.

I also have 3 years of experience as a habilitator and behavior technician with students who have special needs.
