Adobe Illustrator

I have used Adobe Illustrator for various projects since it's CS release. I worked professionally as a graphic designer for 3 years at DemiDec Inc. and The World Scholar's Cup, as well as completed freelance projects (e.g., logo and branding assignments). I believe in creative project-based teaching: I find students learn best when they apply newly learned tools to a short assignment. I am happy to tailor lessons to student's particular goals.

Adobe Photoshop

I have used Adobe Photoshop for various projects (in photo editing, painting, and design) since it's CS release. I believe in creative project-based teaching: I find students learn best when they apply newly learned tools to a short assignment. I am happy to tailor lessons to student's particular goals.

Drawing

I trained for 3 years at Mission: Renaissance school in Southern California. At Harvard University, I showcased in art shows and worked as set designer. I worked as freelance graphic designer for 3 years and currently act as design consultant. I enjoy working with students interested in realism (learning to "see" the subject, measuring and framing techniques) or conceptual (concept development, multimedia, execution) art. I continue to draw and sketch by leisure.

French

I studied 4 years of French in high school; studied French film theory and French literature at Harvard College during undergraduate career; spent 3 months (Feb 2013-May 2013) working in Paris; currently read French literature and listen to French radio for leisure. I look forward to teaching beginning to intermediate students who have a passion for conversation and an interest in modern French literature.

Painting

I trained for 3 years at Mission: Renaissance school in Southern California. At Harvard University, I showcased in art shows and worked as set designer. I worked as freelance graphic designer for 3 years and currently act as design consultant. I enjoy working with students interested in still life painting with oil or acrylic.

SAT Math

I have worked as an SAT and SAT II tutor with Ivy-Way SAT Prep, tutoring SAT Math, Reading, and Writing, as well as SAT II subjects. My students see a marked improvement of 100-200 points on the 800 point scale. During my high school years, I scored 800 on both SAT Math and SAT II Math. I teach general SAT strategy and believe in exercise-based methods -- after all, practice makes perfect!

Approved Subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet certified in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
