I have taught English as a second language at public schools in my home country (Uruguay) for over 20 years. During that period I was both a teacher and a tutor, because after classes I would tutor those students with learning difficulties. I believe that all human beings have different abilities and that in order to learn and to overcome difficulties we must have confidence in ourselves. I have always worked to help my students build or improve that confidence and obtained good results. I think that is the first step to learning.
I start my tutoring with an assessment, in order to be able to find out what the difficulties are and how much work needs to be done. Then I plan my lessons around that first diagnosis. The student always has an explanation of what we are doing and why we are doing so, because I believe it helps to overcome difficulties.
