Carlos is a veteran public school teacher with over 16 years of experience teaching Second Language Learners. He is passionate about helping students succeed. Carlos works with both public school students and professionals equally and is comfortable with all ages.
He helps students improve self-esteem and grades while giving them tools for becoming better students. He helps professionals learn content related language in English and Spanish through focused grammar lessons or through a whole language approach in which content is secondary to improving comprehensible language.
Carlos is familiar with ACTFL (American Counsel on the Teaching of Foreign Languages) and guide students through the levels of proficiency so that students can use the rating system to present their language ability in the workplace. Carlos can also direct students to online resources where students can practice a host of language skills on their own.
Most importantly, Carlos has fun and makes personal connections with his students. He believes that language is learned through meaningful use and his upbringing provided the basis for a life of rich language and cultural experiences.
He did his formal schooling in the US but spends quite a bit of time with his family in Venezuela. Although his first language is Spanish, he really learned English simultaneously and is completely literate in both.
His experience in public education spans K-12 and covers not only classroom teaching but mentoring, coaching (strategic teaching skills), technology, and language acquisition. He has worked for in-district grants in areas of technology and language acquisition focusing on Two-Way Language Programs.
Don't hesitate to contact Carlos with any of your language needs!
