I am a veteran public school teacher with over 16 years of experience teaching Second Language
Learners as a certified public school teacher in Arizona. I am passionate about helping students succeed. I have worked with both public school students and professionals equally and am comfortable with all ages. I did my formal schooling in the US but have spent quite a bit of time with my family in Venezuela. Spanish
is my first language so I am fluent in all areas of literacy. I believe that language is learned through meaningful use and my upbringing provided the basis for a life of rich language and cultural experiences.
I help students with English
and Spanish through a variety of methods. For adults and students alike, I can focus on any aspect of language learning, whether it be grammar
, oral, written, etc. We can focus on content related language acquisition for language in the workplace or language specific to a content area like science
or social studies
I am familiar with ACTFL (American Counsel on the Teaching of Foreign Languages) and I guide students through the levels of proficiency so that students can use the rating system to present their language ability in the workplace. I can also direct students to online resources where students can practice a host of language skills on their own.
Most importantly, I like to have fun!
My experience in public education spans K-12 and covers not only classroom teaching but mentoring, coaching (strategic teaching skills), technology, and language acquisition. I have worked for in-district grants in areas of technology and language acquisition focusing on Two-Way Language Programs.
I look forward to our first session!

I want to share a web page I made years ago when working in a high school district in Phoenix. I haven't kept up on the links for years but I have yet to find any that don't work. Even if a few are broken, I think this is a useful tool for teachers and
students. I have it leveled ESL 1-2 and 3-4, based on the courses we were offering and so it follows our Standards at that time.
