Hello, My name is Drew and I've been around the block when it comes to technology, web development, and programming. If you're looking for an easy-going tutor who can bring the mystery of coding down to an easy-to-understand level, or if you just want to extend your basic understanding of programming, look no further.
I've been in the Phoenix area for about 4 years and if it involves computers, technology, programming, databases or web development, I've probably done it. WyzAnt's subject material selections are pretty limited, so if your technology subject matter is not listed, please contact me anyway and I'll gladly let you know if I'm an expert or not.
I am off 3 days a week so I have a very flexible schedule and am happy to work around yours and meet as often as you like. If you'd like to work toward a certification I'd love to guide you through it. Even if it is on a material I'm a bit rusty on, I have access to professional training courses we could go through together to work toward achieving your certification.
Let me know what you're interested in, and I look forward to learning with you!
I've been using strictly PC's my entire life. At the age of 5 I was lucky enough to have a grandfather with a DOS computer and became fluent with the OS. At a young age I was programming in QBasic and writing batch scripts, and more recently I've created complex batch scripts for managing Expedia's datacenter servers, and managing/installing Windows Updates on newly purchased computers for Geek Squad.
I've been involved in programming since the age of 8, beginning with Visual Basic 6, later moving on to some C++, and then moved into web development.
I've been working with and fixing computers for over 17 years. I've worked as an independant contractor doing technician work, as a Geek Squad agent, and on my own through my own business for several years. I'm a Microsoft Certified Professional for Windows XP, 2000 Server, and 2000 Professional, as well as CompTIA A+ and Cisco CCNA trained.
I've loved showing people technology and have taught several friends and family everything from basic maintenance to HTML, to full blown operating system development. I've been told I excel at bringing hard-to-understand subjects down to an easy to learn level :)
I've had experience with Apple and Macintosh machines since 2004. I worked with tutoring students in our Macintosh lab at Ball State University and have done everything from troubleshoot and administrate, to develop on xCode. I recently built a Hackintosh machine so am familiar with that process as well, and am very familiar with Snow Leopard and Mountain Lion.
I am an IC3 Certified Microsoft Office specialist and hold 3 MCP Certifications for Microsoft Servers, including Email. I'm very familiar with Outlook and its' end uses.
I have been a Microsoft Certified Professional for Windows 2000 Professional, Windows 2000 Server, and Windows XP Pro since high school. I'm CompTIA A+ certified and have 20 years of experience building, configuring and troubleshooting Windows machines.
In 2008 I graduated from Ball State University through their ITCMP Computer Technology program, emphasizing computer networking. I completed and excelled in their Cisco CCNA NetAcademy. While I never took the certification test at the time, I am brushing up on CCNA again and plan to take the test sometime in 2013.
I'm familiar with a lot of the great tools and sites online for learning PHP, and grabbing useful snippets of code, including the PHP reference site itself which is spectacular.
I started programming with Visual Basic 6 at the age of 8. By high school I had created more than 100 small (and some larger) projects for various tasks my friends and I wanted to automate within Windows. Some were quite useful.
Over the years I've taught several friends VB6 and assisted with teaching it in classes both in high school and college. Also branched into VB.NET in 2003. While it's a significant change, its' roots still lie in VB6 and the additions help you learn other .NET languages such as C#.
I still view (and recommend) VB as the best language for a new programmer.
EXCEEDED MY EXPECTATIONS — Andrew is a very patient and thorough tutor! I had never used a tutor before but I knew that I needed help organizing my iphoto library as well as some instruction regarding file copying and management. He took the time to show me these skills and then patiently explained what he was doing. I am more of a visual learner, so having him there to instruct and then walk me through it gave me the confi ...
