Hello!
My name is Melissa and I LOVE learning! I believe education is the key to success, but it has to make sense first! I am a graduate of a double Master's program from Webster University (MBA/MHA), and have worked in Human Resources in the learning department at my previous job, developing employees and leaders. I also co-developed a character-building program called K.H.A.R.I.C.T.E.R for an elementary school to help prepare their 5th grade students successfully transition to middle school with key social/behavior skills. I truly enjoyed that experience, as I planned, designed, and taught the content with my project partner for an entire semester. The best part was seeing the light go off in the children's heads about the values we were instilling into their character.
I also have spent some time as a private tutor, teaching English, writing, reading, spelling, and elementary math. I enjoy working one-on-one with children to give them my full attention and also celebrating each time they achieve their goal! I understand that concepts need to be mastered, but I also like to hear from the student how they would define success from themselves through our time together. I think it's important for the student to feel like they own their education, so if they are able to define and express what their personal goals are, I incorporate that into our sessions. In the past, I usually take some time in the first session to understand their interests and hobbies, and use those to as part of my remaining sessions (activities, games, projects, etc.).
My passion for developing people has also played out at my church - I spent two years facilitating leadership development classes for the ministry leaders at my church and also developed a young adult development program as well called P.Y.L.O.T. (Powerful Young Leaders of Tomorrow). My goal is to help others become the best possible person they can be through learning, coaching, and character-building.
If you are interested, please feel free to contact me!
Thank you!
Melissa
