English
Through compassionate, understanding, specialized instruction I will help your student succeed using the English language as a tool. Emphasis includes, but is not limited to:
Age and grade appropriate vocabulary comprehension and memorization, sentence structure and grammar, narrative style and perspective, and literature.
Japanese
Japanese Curriculum includes emphasis in, but not limited to:
Basic grammar, pronunciation, and vocabulary of Japanese. Memorization of Hiragana, Katana, and basic Kanji. Study of Japanese culture. Development of speaking, listening, reading and writing skills.
Also included is an emphasis on classics of southeast pacific Asia, primarily Japan:
Wu Cheng'en's Journey west", Osamu Dazai's "No longer Human", Eiji Yoshikawa's "Musashi", Murasaki Shikibu's "The Tale of Genji", and finally the Shirane "Traditional Japanese Literature".
Martial Arts
I teach beginner level Judo, Jiu-jitsu, Boxing and Kick Boxing. Emphasis for the curriculum is placed on the non-striking arts of Judo and Jiu-jitsu. Techniques taught include but are not limited to: throwing techniques (hand, shoulder, hip, leg, wweeps, and reaping type throws), joint locks, chokes and other submission techniques. If requested, striking techniques of (boxing, kickboxing, and Shotokan Karate) can also be instructed.
Reading
Through compassionate, understanding, specialized instruction I will help your student understand the core principles of reading. Emphasis includes, but is not limited to:
Alphabet comprehension, pronunciation, vocabulary comprehension and memorization, sentence structure, narrative style and grade and age appropriate literature or other reading materials.
Religion
Subjects instructed include but are not limited to:
Buddhist Scripture with emphasis on the traditional Buddhist teachings of Siddhartha Gautama (Shakyamuni),The Dhammapada, and the modern teachings of Pema Chodron and Thich Nhat Hanh.
Native American Religions: Holistically referred to as "the sacred". This includes an overview of the all encompassing "Sacred" aspects of American Indian life, which include a reverence for ecology, an acceptance of the unknown, the use of sacred fools, origin mythology's and contemporary American Indian Religions such as The Native American Peyote Church.
