Student Feedback for Kay

"Excellent tutor!"

- Jess from Scottsdale, AZ

Kay was an immense help to me through tutoring for two of my upper division statistics classes. Since I’m a Political Science major I had very little use for math, so I was intimidated to take these statistics courses, but Kay set my mind at ease. When we first met she was very familiar with my textbook, and was able to help me navigate through the dense material. I’m a visual learner so she could draw the diagrams in ways that were easy for me to understand, and when she explained the formulas she do so thoroughly so I could easily replicate them on my own. She was also always willing to make time for me and work extra hours on components of the class I wasn’t quite as confident in. I’m proud to say that I received an “A” in both classes and it is all thanks to her great tutoring strategies.

Kay replied on 5/8/2013:

Jesse, you are a bright student! It was also a great experience for me tutoring you for your two statistic courses. I have no doubt that you will be successful in your studies. You were always well prepared for our sessions and open to learning about the different topics we covered. You worked hard for your grades! Congratulations!

"TEAS test wonder!"

- Alyssa from Gilbert, AZ

Kay was an excellent tutor that worked with me and my present abilities. Her technique of tutoring really worked to my advantage because she set up my tutoring sessions just as if I was in the testing center needing to pass the present test. Kay was very understanding and has a broad understanding of each topic that I needed to master. She is very compassionate and empathetic to help assess your challenges. She is very hands on and is very energetic to teach and for the student to understand. Just as her profile states, her intelligence is remarkable. She finds many routes to teach the material if you do not understand the first time she presents the information. As a student that needs hands on teaching and an explanation more than once, her techniques worked wonders for me. With just three days of intensive tutoring I was able to pass my entrance exam with flying colors! Kay is an exceptional tutor!

"Nice Tutor, Very Pleasant, Not strong in Doctoral Statistics."

- Ronnie from Phoenix, AZ

Kay was very pleasant, professional, and accommodating. I was thrilled to have someone to share my assignments with and explain what I had done but I was very disappointed that Kay was not as well versed in statistical procedures nor SPSS as her profile had lead me to believe. I needed to know how to run a factorial ANOVA on SPSS and Kay did not know how to guide me or lead me on the exercise and her knowledge of power and effect sizes, while present, was not strong enough that she could teach with confidence. I would not be surprised if Kay is an AWESOME math teacher but her statistics are at the basic level at best. However, it is very expensive to pay someone to be a "study buddy," which is what our time together was.

Kay replied on 5/8/2013:

Ronnie and I worked together for around four hours. She is a sociable and knowledgeable student. My role with her was quite different from my typical role as a tutor. I was more of someone who would check her assignments with her on various statistical procedures. From the beginning I mentioned to Ronnie that although I am familiar with SPSS and have worked with many students using SPSS in their statistics classes, I am not an expert in it. It was evident that our teaching and learning styles were not compatible. I wish her the best in her studies.

"Easy to work with"

- Vincent from El Mirage, AZ

Kay was very informative regarding the material; she simplified statistics in a way that made it easier for me to understand, and I felt confident that she knew the subject well. This is my first experience with a tutor and I feel fortunate to have Kay.

Kay replied on 5/8/2013:

Vincent, it has been a pleasure tutoring you. You are a hard worker and always prepared for your tutoring sessions. I am confident that you will do well in your doctoral program. You have some great questions about the different material we cover, which allows me to customize our session(s) to emphasize more on topics that require further clarification.
