Are you ready to learn some Japanese?!

Many people think Japanese is an impossible language to learn because of all the characters, but I'm here to prove to you that it's far from the case! I focus my lessons around the latest language-teaching standards of communicability, interactivity, immersion, and entertainment. My lessons are designed to reflect real-life situations so my students learn Japanese to prepare them for actual speaking, rather than just an exam. I keep my lessons fun and my students engaged through many different games, songs/tongue-twisters, pictures, and stories that all ages can enjoy.

I have studied Japanese for almost a decade now. I have both my BA in Japanese as well as the JLPT N2 certification, which designates certificate holders at a "near-native level." In addition, I am also a licensed Colorado high school/middle school Japanese language teacher and currently teach Japanese at the high school-level.

I love the Japanese language and I love teaching! My hope is to pass on my passion to help students learn Japanese and feel confident in their abilities. If you're interested in becoming my student, please feel free to send me a message and I'll get back to you ASAP!

I will be relocating to the Phoenix area from July 2015 and am currently accepting new students for there.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Japanese

I am a licensed K-12 Japanese teacher. I have taught Japanese to first graders all the way up to college students, with my main focus being middle and high school students. I am also currently teaching as a traditional classroom teacher at a high school in the mornings. In addition, I currently hold N2 certification from the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT).

There are a lot of ideas floating around on what you need to do to become a master Japanese. Daily practice, immersion, memorizing the dictionary, getting a boy/girlfriend who is a native speaker ... the list goes on and on. But, for me, the most important thing for you to do is to embrace being wrong. This sounds awful, right? No one likes to be wrong! It's embarrassing, it's humiliating,... read more

Makes every lesson enjoyable! — I'm a freshman high school student and I've been studying Japanese with Katrina for a few months now multiple times a week. I'm going to be an exchange student to Japan in a few months and Katrina's doing a wonderful job of preparing me! Within the first month of our lessons, my Japanese had about tripled in what it was before. She's a great teacher who is super patient and friendly! ...
