Hi! My name is Rhonda and I am a premed student with more than 300 hours of experience tutoring Chemistry, Biology and Anatomy and Physiology. I enjoyed learning these subjects so much and excelled at assisting other students in my class learn the material that I pursued tutoring. I have a current AZ DPS Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card - this is a requirement for doing my upcoming clinicals for Physician Assistant training. The card application process is done by the the State of AZ which does a complete background check.
I LOVE chemistry but ... it is like learning a foreign language. It takes a while to sink in. It's blend of heavy concepts and math leads many students to throw in the towel. In all the chemistry classes I've taken, the drop out rate was 50 percent. I have figured out a way to master chemistry by utilizing my "tips, tricks and tools." I use these to assist students in learning the material and being successful with taking exams. Being a returning student, I have refined the learning process and pass this information onto my students. Sometimes listening to a chemistry lecture can "make your head spin." Where I come in is helping students "decipher the code" by rewording the material in real world terminology. I fill in some of the details that are left out of lectures that help students connect the dots. I also like to ask leading questions that don't give the answer but lead the student to figuring out the answer for themselves - this increases their critical thinking skills - very important for any future science courses.
My students have shown great improvement in their understanding of the material as well as an increase in their test scores. My goal if for each of my students to get an A on their transcript for Chemistry and Biology Classes. Those transcript grades make a difference in achieving future goals - my driving passion is to help others achieve their future goals.
I tutor high school (regular, honors, AP) and college students in the following: Introductory and Fundamental Chemistry, General Chemistry I and II, Organic Chemistry I and II. I also tutor Anatomy and Physiology, Biology, Microbiology and Cell Biology (ASU class). My GPA is 4.0 after all the hard science classes. All of my grades were in the 97-99th percentile. I can assist with time management skills such as building a master schedule based on class exams, homework and activities, and building a "daily list" to achieve success on items listed on the master schedule. I specially prepared "study sheets" that I and my students have found effective for breaking material down into manageable sound bites. I have experience assisting students in pulling out the most relevant information from books, readings, etc. and placing on the study sheets. I believe in finding the student's best study technique and teaching them to utilize this technique as well as a few others that work for them. More than one technique is important to use to "get the material in" and be able to retain it during an exam. I also help create project management sheets for larger projects or assignments - allowing students to see the project in manageable short tasks. Lastly, I can help with test taking skills assessment and review, and note taking.
