My name is Erik.
I graduated from the University of Wisconsin-River Falls with a bachelor of science degree. My emphasis was in History and I have two minors in Geography and Social Sciences (Psychology, Anthropology, Political Science and Sociology). I was named National Residence Hall Honorary Student of the month for October while I was at UWRF and I was a member of both the Student Geography Organization and the Student History Organization.
I am currently working on a Master's Degree in Education so that I can become a high school History / Social Studies teacher and a football / wrestling coach. I have always enjoyed history and geography and I felt the next logical step would be to pass on my knowledge and excitement about the subjects. I also really enjoy football and wrestling and I would like to some day coach a team.
I have been to Europe twice(Iceland, Scotland, England, The Netherlands, Germany and Austria) as well as Mexico, South Korea, Japan and Guam. I recently came back from South Korea where I lived and taught English for almost 2 years (3 months shy). While I was in South Korea I worked for two private ESL academies where I worked with both Native English Speaking Teachers as well as Korean teachers that also spoke English. It was my responsibility to prepare my students to pass their English Language Speaking tests. I only cam back to the U.S. because I found that there were no more teaching opportunities for me there. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy being back home, but I was also enjoying my time living abroad.
Other employment opportunities I have had include working for Arby's in food preparation, customer service and janitorial; for Federal Express as a package handler and as a member of the Kansas City Chiefs Summer Camp Staff at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls. I enjoyed working at each and every one of these jobs and I I think it's because I enjoy being around and helping others whether it's a customer, a fellow co-worker or a student. I love to talk and I really enjoy showing and teaching others what it is that I know.
Some interests and hobbies that I enjoy include: American Football, Baseball, Pre-2000 NBA, Swimming, Pro Wrestling, Video Games, a variety of music, history, comic books, movies and a few other "Nerdy" things.
I believe that all of these qualities make me not only a good qualified teachers, but a great one as well. I feel that by having similar interests as today's students it will allow me to create a rapport with them and that they will have an easier time understanding subjects when they know someone who may have had similar troubles until they found someone to connect with.
