My name is Annette and my specialty is working with special needs students, kindergarten (K) - sixth (6) grade. I have extensive experience working with this category of students. I have worked, with success, with Mental Retardation students, moderate through profound. I have 10 years of direct, hands-on teaching. Other areas of special needs students, I have extensive work with Special Learning Disabilities, 15 years. Subjects for SLD students are Reading Comprehension, phonics, basic reading, vocabulary, Math Operations, Word Problem, Written Expression, grammar, spelling proofreading, and writing complete sentence. Other areas for Special Needs students are self-esteem and organization. I have 15 years of writing Individual Educational Plans (IEP) as well as SPED leadership roles, Director of Special Education Director at a local charter school for 8 years.
I have a Bachelor Degree with honors in Secondary Education Social Studies. My Masters Degree is Special Education-Cross Categories, SLD, MR, dyslexia, autism. I have also taught in the classroom, regular education, first grade, second grade, team-taught fourth grade- Language Arts.
My method of teaching is one-on-one and small -group of no more than 3 students.
I am proud of my successes with SLD students. I have been able to exit one or two students from the SPED program each year. Who said special needs kids can not learn!
