I find the best way to learn is to have fun. While many subjects can be frustrating, maintaining a sense of calm allows a person to learn at their own pace without less anxiety. This is why my teaching style is dependent on the individual's preference of pace and style of learning.

I started my higher education as a mechanical engineering and music double major, and quickly found music to be my passion. After completing two years of mechanical engineering higher education and playing in musicals around Portland, I found myself enjoying and spending more of my time in music related activities. In my junior year, I dropped my engineering major, focusing on my music studies and performances.

Upon graduating from the University of Portland with a B.A. in Music Performance, I attended Berklee College of Music, interested in their electronic music production and music engineering programs. While I did not complete a degree at Berklee, my experience was invaluable, and I would not have left if I had not been given an opportunity at my dream job in the U.S. Navy.

My career in the Navy was cut short due to medical complications, and I am now at ASU pursuing classes and labs to make my Psychology PhD application competitive.

In addition to these educational experiences, I have had experience playing and recording various styles of music. My teaching experience includes multiple brass students as well as classroom presentations (primarily elementary classrooms). I also assisted in starting the jazz band program at Roosevelt High School in Portland, OR.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Ear Training

I am a graduate from the University of Portland with a B.A. in Music Performance and will be attending Berklee School of Music for Music Production and Engineering. Furthermore, I have been attempting to teach myself perfect pitch (absolute pitch or AP) for two years now, and have made great progress using a recollection method where I think about a well known piece of music to obtain a reference pitch.

General Music

I am a graduate from the University of Portland with a B.A. in Music Performance and will be attending Berklee School of Music for Music Production and Engineering. I have been a part of several musicals, gigs, and jam sessions around Portland, Oregon and am constantly teaching myself more information relating to music in any and every way.

Phonics

During my private lessons for trombone, my teacher told me that he had taught an enunciation class. This motivated me to imagine how my music education could assist me in this subject as well. Often times in a music lesson you are asked to tell the instructor exactly how you articulate a note in terms of the placement of the tongue, airstream, and the force of air being used. This has given me the unique skill of awareness in how to produce sounds and articulate speech in ways that allow me to tell others how they might improve or change how they pronounce words and sounds. In terms of educational experience, I am a graduate from the University of Portland with a B.A. in Music Performance and will be attending Berklee School of Music for Music Production and Engineering.

Trombone

Having played a trombone for 12 years, I have become proficient not only in the performance aspect, but educating others as well. I have volunteered at an underprivileged high school in Portland, Oregon and have given many of my friends, peers, and younger acquaintances lessons. In terms of education, I am a graduate from the University of Portland with a B.A. in Music Performance and will be attending Berklee School of Music for Music Production and Engineering.

Trumpet

While I have only played the trumpet for 5 years, I have played the trombone for 12 years and have given many lessons on both instruments. However, I would not proclaim myself to be able to teach a trumpet student above the intermediate level. In terms of education, I am a graduate from the University of Portland with a B.A. in Music Performance and will be attending Berklee School of Music for Music Production and Engineering.
